Professional Refereed Academic Journal Future Possibilities: Experiences of a Review Editor

The future of academic journals is changing rapidly due to innovations such as the World Wide Web. As such, the traditionally paper-based processes have shifted towards a digitally manipulated procedures and progression. Examples of the digital maneuvers so as to enhance and ease the detail-oriented review process include the following: manuscript submission; manuscript reviewer assignment; reviewer access to manuscript; manuscript review submission; manuscript decision-making process; communications between the author(s) and professional journal representatives. As well, the professional refereed academic journals are shifting from paper-based publications to include Web-enhanced access to hybrid journals, or a more forward-thinking futuristic viewpoint to Web-based journals.
